The Honda CR-V only real downside as a family car is that it's only available as a five-seater. Rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Citroen C-Crosser have two extra chairs in the back. Many 4x4s are now only available with diesel engines, but the Honda can be had with either a 2.0-litre petrol or a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The latter is still the better choice though, due to its superior economy and better resale values.
